Hey Guys,
It's been brought up before that it would be neat to have a driver/car list. I'll volunteer to collect the information if people will respond back here. Perhaps we do it by region of the country and what groups your run with. Keep to cars running or being built and as more come online we update. If you know of everyone running in your region, just include them. Include the tracks you frequent the most.
Region: Northern California (Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Reno-Fernley)
Name Year Color Class Run Groups Car Number
------- ------- -------- ------- -------------- --------------
Kenny Gorman 1998 Silver BSR PCA, ARC, PRC 341
Bill Pickering 1997 Red BSR PCA, ARC, PRC 628
Doris Pickering 1997 Red BSR PCA, ARC, PRC 628L
Andrew Forrest 1998 White BSX PCA (BSR in 2009) 470
Rob Ways 1999 Black BSX PCA
Region: Southern California/Las Vegas
Name Year Color Class Run Groups Car Number
------- ------- -------- ------- -------------- --------------
Mark Foley 1997 Green/Silver GT3/BSR/SPBOX ARC, POC, PCA 299
JR Gordon 1999 White/Red GT3/BSR/SPBOX ARC, POC, PCA 30
Bxtrbob Baird 1997 Arena Red BSX/POCTT POC, PCA 149
Darin Kajioka 1998 Silver BSR/SPBOX POC, PCA 265
Region: Texas
Name Year Color Class Run Groups
------- ------ -------- ------ --------------
Eric Shaffer 1998 Silver BSR PCA
Chris Amond 1997 Black/Red BSR PCA and anyone else who will have me
Brian Amond 1999 Black BSR PCA
Carl Amond 1999 Blue BSR PCA
Rob Cohen 1998 Black BSR PCA (Maverick Region)
Jay Walker 1998 Silver/Green SPBOX PCA
Steve Watkins 1999 White SPBOX PCA
Andy Scott 1997 White SPBOX PCA
Let's see what the Boxster Spec family looks like!

Got a note from Chris Alvarado and Dave Maynard asking if we are interested in a separate start for the Spesboxsters at TWS? Not sure which group we would run in, but it sounds like a fine idea to me. Let me know what you think. Rocky

A quote from the Official Boxster Spec site:
"February 24, 2010 6:51 AM — The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is pleased to announce a new racing series for Porsche Boxster 986 chassis cars.
NASA has secured the rights to the already successful Boxster Spec series created and managed by Bill Bodine, a long time Porsche racer from Southern California. Bodine will continue his involvement with the series as the National Director." (Emphasis added by me.)
I didn't know that!

I thought they just adopted our spec.

Kenny and his crew pulled the exhaust off of their car, while in a trailer, in the pitch black dark so I could run the enduro at Sebring. Thanks guys. I tried to ship it back with some anejo, but UPS laughed at me, so it'll come separately.

What are the options for connecting the bottom of the window net? I have the NASCAR type side bars that protrude into the door cavity. Photos would be helpful.

Hello all,
I have heard many stories about how fun the lemons races are and I think it would be fun to get 6 of us TX BSR drivers to form a team for next years race at Eagles Canyon. I believe a few of you have run the lemons race at MSRH so perhaps you already plan on it. Any others interested? I believe the entry deadline is March and race is first weekend in June.
Thanks
Rich

there are 3 (maybe 4) bolts on the airbag sensor control,
one is a simple 10mm, the other two are an odd almost beveled
nut with gear looking notches around the base.
before I attack them with a vise grip -- I thought I would
ask how they are supposed to be removed :-)
thanks,
Mike

Alright, I know this seem silly but other than the three 13mm bolts on each side of the base of the convertible frame and disconnecting the arm from the lift motor on each side, is there anything else that holds the top on to the body of the car?

I will know shortly whether or not Toyo can provide 200+ sets of front and rears.
Great job working on the NASA stuff... how about making sure the suppliers to the series know what they need to account for?

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
We have incredible news for all Boxster Spec racers and future racers.
As BSR has grown, the need for more events in more regions of the country has led us to seek additional partnerships for the Spec. Our POC and PCA affiliations have given us a modest number of events in some regions of the country but it has become clear that more events in more regions would prompt more builds and a more vital Boxster Spec community.
We have found what we feel to be a perfect partner for BSR in NASA. NASA’s remarkable schedule of nationwide events, coupled with their experience in growing and maintaining the hugely successful Spec Miata and 944 Spec prove them to be our most capable and qualified partner to date.
NASA will call their class “986 Spec” and will adhere to the Official 2010 Boxster Spec Rules.
The BSR/NASA’s partnership will provide our series a number of
upgrades including:
National Affiliation
Part of a national organization with 11 chapters across the U.S.
Rules are standardized in all regions and centrally managed
Affordable Membership ($45) and License Dues ($70)
National Race Series
$10,750.00 CASH paid to Toyo Spec Class at National Championship
5 race starts make you eligible for the National Championship at Miller Motorsports Park
National Race is recorded on TV Quality Video for live web coverage
Podium finishers recognized in GRM winners page
Media Coverage
Class gets coverage in Grassroots Motorsports, www.nasaproracing.com, and dedicated class website
Regional Benefits
Dedicated Class Representative (Series Leader)
Economical Entry Fees
Technical compliance and rules enforcement
Toyo Race Contingency (paid 2x per weekend)
1st- $150
2nd- $100
3rd- $75
4th- $50
5th- $25
Toyo Regional Championship Contingency
1st- $1000
2nd- $500
3rd- $250
Becoming part of the NASA family will insure the stability of our Spec, increase our exposure nationwide and accelerate our growth. NASA respects all that we have accomplished with Boxster Spec to date and has requested that we form a rules committee similar to the ones that have previously served BSR so well.
We will continue to coordinate and communicate with POC and PCA representatives in order to maintain a unified spec that can be enjoyed nationwide.
Please join us in formally welcoming NASA to our "986 Spec" family!
Best Regards,
Bill Pickering
Chair -- Boxster Spec Rules Committee

Last week Charles from LN Engineering and I hosted our inaugural M96 "101" engine assembly class here at the Flat 6 Innovations training facility.

The internals of the M96 engine is not well understood by most anyone, including Porsche Dealership Technicians who rarely ever do any heavy repair to them. In this class we instructed a group of six participants all the necessary evils for correct engine assembly including the dreaded piston assembly and cam timing procedures. These participants ranged in profession from Automotive Shop Owners to Aerospace Engineers, Professors and even a Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Surgeon!

The class was a HUGE success!! Using a mix of power point presentations, lecture and actual hands on student interface Charles and I were able to answer the complex questions and address the most dreaded aspects of assembly in an easy to understand "shop" atmosphere.

We have many more of these classes scheduled in the future, see this portion of the site for more information about attending.
http://www.flat6innovations.com/clas...rebuild-schoolHere are a couple of Testimonials we have received thus far..
I have just completed Jake Raby’s M96 101 class and I got to attest that the three -day class has provided to me the most technically exhilarating experience in 30 years. Jake has masterfully taken the mystery out of this complex piece of hardware and presented it in a practical, easy to understand format. My learning curve on the Boxster has been exponential and I now have the necessary knowledge to properly maintain and upgrade my vehicle. It refreshing to listen and learn from someone who is a pioneer and expert in his field and Jake is nothing short of being prolific. I want to give kudos to Charles Navarro for providing his application expertise for this class.
Jim Orlando
Aerospace Engineer
February 2010 student M96-101 class----------------------------------------
Q: Did you find the class valuable and money well spent?
The whole trip set me back roughly the direct expenses associated with two DE weekends. I’ll never miss those weekends over a decade of track time, but the knowledge and experience I now have with the M96 engine lasts forever—at least as long as I last.
Greg Morrison PhDHere are some photos from the class. What a good time we had!

Somehow I think this is going to be one of those if you have to ask you can't afford it.
I think in my case it will be that I can probably afford it, but do I want to afford it.
If that makes any sense.
I've always had the ambition to getting into racing. I have created
a side business doing some wrench work and engine rebuilding to
potentially fuel/offset some of the costs.
But how much does it cost in race prep, expendables, etc for a DE or race weekend.
What are some of the costs?
I'm trying to do some homework before I become car rich and race poor :-)
thanks,
Mike
